Mott sweeps awards, set for MCCAA opener
FLINT - For the second straight week, the Mott Community College softball team swept the weekly MCCAA Eastern Conference awards as the Bears wrapped up spring training with the start of the league season on deck.
Arika Hines earned the Pitcher of the Week honor for the first time this season, while Gracie Cantley was named the Player of the Week for the first time in her career.
Hines appeared in five games on the mound, earning two wins and a save. She allowed eight earned runs in 29 innings with a 1.93 ERA and struck out 41 batters.
Cantley went 11-for-20 at the plate with four doubles, five RBIs, two runs scored and three stolen bases in five games.

The Bears traveled to THE Spring Games in Winter Haven, Fla., earlier this month. Mott went 8-5 overall, winning four of the last five games played in the Sunshine State.
Cantley led the offense, playing in all 13 games. She batted .475, going 19-of-40 at the plate with nine RBIs and stealing three bases. Keira McGarvie had 13 hits with five RBIs, while Josie Spencer recorded 10 hits and five RBIs.
Hines appeared in 10 games on the mound with a 2.18 ERA over 51.1 innings, while striking out 65. Mya Martinez added eight appearances with a 2.51 ERA in 30.2 innings. She struck out 22.
